Lake Bunyonyi (meaning “Place of many little birds”) is a serene, misty lake located in Southwestern Uganda, near the town of Kabale, and close to the Rwanda border. It is famous for its picturesque scenery, terraced hills, and over 29 islands scattered across its calm waters.
It is also considered one of the safest lakes in Africa for swimming because it is bilharzia-free, has no crocodiles, and no hippos.
Lake Bunyonyi is one of Uganda’s most beautiful and relaxing destinations, especially popular as a wind-down spot after gorilla trekking in Bwindi or Mgahinga. Meaning “place of many little birds,” it offers a vast mix of water adventures, cultural encounters, and scenery.
